The Filipino Composers Development Cooperative (FILCOMDEC) and the Kapisanan ng mga Broadkaster ng Pilipinas (KBP) have formed an alliance in a joint venture project that aims to rekindle pride in Filipino music. The new movement formally launched on September 15, 2010 at the New Horizons Hotel, Mandaluyong City with members of the press, music industry personalities and radio station icons in attendance. There will be a music download site, www.clickmusic.com.ph, which focuses on promotion and sales of Filipino musical creations.

The concept for Click Music came from a series of brainstorming meetings between FILCOMDEC and KBP., FILCOMDEC Chairman Joey Ayala said that aside from providing an impetus to the creation and wider promotion of Original Pilipino Music or OPM, the project also aims to improve the benefits accruing to Filipino composers. KBP Chairman Jun Nicdao, on the other hand, said that the alliance will generate more and better music content for airing by KBP member stations.

As a business model, the Click Music website offers some unique components. This is the first project that brings composers and radio networks together towards a unified business direction anchored on creative industries initiatives with a tighter focus on copyright ownership in the value chain during the production and distribution of creative content in the music industry.

The Movement

1. To promote the Philippine Music Industry, develop the culture and arts and discover new talents, including establishing, creating, maintaining and managing an internet protocol based web-site for music content and to distribute the same through downloading and other multi-media applications and to improve or promote the economic well being and/or interest of the stakeholders in the Philippine Music Industry.

2. Work in close consultation with the different stakeholders in the Philippine Music Industry such as the composers, publishers, sound recording rights owners, artists/performers, broadcast media and all other parties who might have a stake in the Philippine Music Industry.

The KBP Pop Music Festival

2010 KBP Pop Music Festival aims to generate new song content. The competition is open to all Filipino composers both amateur and professional. This contest is unique from other songwriting contests because the competition will be done in the airwaves. The top 500 entries that make it to the semi-finals will be provided mandatory radio airplay. Click Music is looking at holding this competition in several editions all year round.

The projects are expected to reinvigorate the Filipino’s pride as a nation rich with talent.
