Attacks

This was the first known wolf attack at Cigar Lake; however, this was northern Saskatchewan's third wolf attack in twelve years.

Response

On August 30, 2016, the Ministry of Environment dispatched two conservation officers to the Cigar Lake Mine to perform an investigation, track down the wolf and provide workers with safety training. A conservation officer, Kevin Harrison, stated that three other wolves in the area had been destroyed by them. Cameco advises that the mine site is kept clean with food waste burned and buried. In addition, there are two fences that ring the landfill site. As of 30 August 2016 there was an outside walking ban with workers being shuttled in vehicles between the workplace and living quarters.
