Born in Memphis, Tennessee, Patterson began his acting career in 1972 and appeared in film, television and stage roles.
Chuck Patterson died on December 23, 2013, aged 68 of a massive heart attack, at home in the Harlem neighborhood of New York City, New York. He was survived by his second wife, an award winning playwright, Cori Thomas whose play "When January Feels Like Summer" he directed the World Premiere of in 2010 at City Theater in Pittsburgh, PA. He is also survived by a step-daughter, Natasha Newman.
