Career

Christopher Porter was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and currently resides in Leesburg, Virginia. He is a tech house and tribal house DJ whose musical career began in the early 1990s when he began playing hip hop, then house music, on vinyl turntables in his hometown of Philadelphia. His DJ performances now incorporate live production utilizing state of the art software and hardware DJ controllers. By the end of the 2000s, Porter was signed to the Younan music label. His DJ name "ZENBI" comes from the name of a marketing and brand consultancy firm Porter started, though he did not begin using the name ZENBI as a stage name until later on in his career—originally DJing under the name DJ Christopher Porter. The word "zenbi" means "good and beautiful" in Japanese. The original meaning was used as a part of Porter's 2012 showcase at the Winter Music Conference, entitled the ZENBI Good & Beautiful showcase. In 2011 Porter founded ZENBI Recordings, a record label dedicated to electronic music producers and DJs. The individuals on the label's roster are largely tech house or tribal house artists, and includes Paolo Mojo, Dr Kucho!, Supernova, Sabb, Chuck Love, Maher Daniel, and John Creamer & Stephane K. Then in 2012, Porter's track Double Trouble reached number one on the Beatport Tech House sales charts. He currently has a weekly residency at the Lima Lounge in Washington, DC.

In the business world, Porter served as the Chief Marketing Officer of a several hundred million dollar NASDAQ-traded computer hardware company called Javelin Systems, and then VP of Marketing for Aspeon, before starting his own businesses. He is now the owner and CEO of Training Camp, an IT job skills training company.
