Chris soumokil
Chris Soumokil (October 13, 1905 in Surabaya, East Java, Dutch East Indies – April 12, 1966) was the President of the self-proclaimed Republik Maluku Selatan.

His father was South Moluccan, and his mother was Indo Eurasian. He studied law at the University of Leiden. In April 1950 he declared the self-proclaimed Republik Maluku Selatan and served as President. After the successful central government attack on rebel capital Ambon, Soumokil fled to nearby Ceram Island where he led small guerilla resistance until he was captured in 1963. He was imprisoned on Java Island and later executed by order of President Suharto in 1966.

Exile and execution
Following the Indonesian invasion of Ambon and the subsequent capture of the rebel stronghold, Soumokil escaped to the neighboring island of Seram. There, he commanded a modest group of guerrilla fighters until his apprehension on December 2, 1963. Initially, he was detained on Java.
Soumokil was executed by firing squad on 12 April 1966, on Pulau Ubi Basar by forces loyal to Suharto.
Political career
Between May 1947 and February 1950, he served as Minister of Justice in four cabinets of the State of East Indonesia.
In April 1950, Soumokil, Johanis Manuhutu, and Albert Wairisal signed a declaration proclaiming the independence of the South Moluccas from the United States of Indonesia and the founding of an independent Republic of South Maluku. He became its second president on 3 May, a week after its creation.
