Chris Orestis is a senior care advocate and co-founder of Life Care Funding Group in Portland, Maine. He has spoken at senior care conferences including the American Association for Long Term Care Insurance, The Harvard Club- Institutional Investors Conference, National Conference of Insurance Legislators (NCOIL), Senior Market Advisor Annual EXPO and Life Settlements Conference. Orestis contributes to industry publications such as National Underwriter, Insurance News Net, and Society of Actuaries.

Early life and education

Orestis grew up in Lewiston, Maine. He grew up in a long-term care environment through his family who is the largest owner and operator of assisted living communities in Maine.

Career

After graduation, Orestis worked in senior positions with political campaigns before working with the White House and Senate Majority Leader in 1993 and 1994. He was vice president for the Health Insurance Association of America and senior vice president of the American Council of Life Insurers. In 2007, he founded Life Care Funding and is CEO of the company. Based on his vision to help elderly patients, the business model is aimed at helping middle-class people afford long-term care. Life Care Funding converts life insurance policies to pay for customer's long-term care.

Orestis is a former Falmouth City Councilor, and began serving on the advisory board to 3in4 Need More Association in 2012.

Orestis has written for many publications including National Underwriter, Insurance News Net, Agent's Sales Journal, Life Insurance Selling, Senior Market Advisor, Long Term Living Magazine, On the Risk, Society of Actuaries, HealthDecisions, ProducersWEB, and InsureIntell.

Orestis co-authored the model for legislation specifically endorsing the Long Term Care Benefit Plan concept which has been introduced in the state legislatures of California, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Maryland, Maine, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Washington and passed into law in Texas and Kentucky. To implement his ideas on senior care funding, he testified before the National Conference of Insurance Legislatures and state legislatures and governmental bodies. He was a contributor to the Commission on Long-Term Care's report to Congress in 2013. Orestis wrote Help on the Way, an e-book which talks about funding long-term care. It has been released as a free e-book. Orestis also has a blog on senior living issues called Senior Living Blog. He is also a contributing columnist as a blogger for A Place for Mom and the Portland Press Herald.
