McGriff received his BFA in Theater Arts Directing from Howard University.
McGriff was the Assistant to the Director for the World Premier of The Color Purple the Broadway Musical and also served as Assistant to the Director for New York City Center's Production of the Wiz starring Ashanti, Tichnina Arnold, Orlando Jones, Lachanze and Dawn Lewis. He has directed over 52 musicals and plays nationwide. McGriff has served as Artistic Director for New Horizons Theater in Alexandria, Virginia. He is one of the youngest artistic directors of commercial theater in the US.
