Chonghai Bridge (simplified Chinese: 崇海大桥; traditional Chinese: 崇海大橋; pinyin: Chónghǎi Dàqiáo) is a bridge, located at 31.85°N 121.28°E / 31.85; 121.28, spanning the northern distributary of the Yangtze River in China that is currently under construction. The bridge, along with the Chongqi Bridge and the Shanghai Yangtze River Tunnel and Bridge will connect the city of Shanghai with the north bank of the Yangtze in Jiangsu Province via Chongming Island.

Location

It will be built between Chongming County and Haimen City. The bridge is to be located 600 metres (2,000 ft) west of Qinglong Harbor (Chinese: 青龙港) on the Jiangsu side, and 1,700 metres (5,600 ft) east of Niupeng Harbor (Chinese: 牛棚港) on the Chongming side. It will connect the Ningqi Expressway (Nanjing-Qidong Expressway) in Jiangsu to a proposed highway encircling Chongming Island, which would then join the Chenhai A-Level Highway (Chinese: 陈海一级公路).

The river at the site of the bridge is 1.8 kilometres (1.1 mi) wide.

Construction

It was due to open in 2010. However, as of June 9, 2010, the bridge's location is still under research and planning.
