Chok Chai (Thai: โชคชัย) is a district (Amphoe) in Nakhon Ratchasima Province, northeastern Thailand.

History

The district was originally named Kra Thok (กระโทก). Due to the old name was not smooth, the government renamed to be Chok Chai (meaning victory in English) in 1945. The name was chosen to commemorate the victory of King Taksin the Great over the warlord of Phimai after the fall of Ayutthaya.

Geography

Neighboring districts are (from the north clockwise) Mueang Nakhon Ratchasima Chaloem Phra Kiat, Nong Bun Mak, Khon Buri and Pak Thong Chai.

The district Chok Chai is subdivided into 10 subdistricts (Tambon), which are further subdivided into 132 administrative villages (Muban).

  • Chok Chai (Thai: เทศบาลตำบลโชคชัย) consisting of parts of the subdistricts Krathok, Chok Chai.
  • Dan Kwian (Thai: เทศบาลตำบลด่านเกวียน) consisting of parts of the subdistricts Tha Ang, Dan Kwian.
  • Tha Yiam (Thai: เทศบาลตำบลท่าเยี่ยม) consisting of the complete subdistrict Tha Yiam.
