Etymology

Anna means "whatever you say or you desire" and varam means "boon", hence whatever you desire will be given as boon by the deity.

Chitti Annavaram

The distinctive feature of Chitti Annavaram is that adoration of Lord Sri Uma Maheshwara Swamy, Lord Sri Satyanarayana Swamy and Sri Ananta-lakshmi Ammavaru on one Peetham, which speaks of the one-ness of both Lord Shiva and Lord Vishnu.

The most distinctive feature of Annavaram is the shrine to Lord Veera Venkata Satyanarayana Swamy on the hill top. The name of the Goddess is Ananta-lakshmi Satyavathi Ammavaru.

This temple is the replica of the Sri Sathyanarayana swamy Temple which is situated in Annavaram, East Godavari District. The popularity and importance of the Annavaram temple situated in East Godavari District is considered as second only to Tirupati in Andhra Pradesh. Lord Sri Sathya narayana swamy temple in Chitti Annavaram is similar in all aspects to that Annavaram temple which is situated East Godavari district.

The area is accessible by road, bus and rail lines. The temple itself can be reached by stairs, a covered path, or a goat trail.

The popularity and importance of the temple is gaining among the people who make pilgrimages to these temples. Festivals are celebrated year-round at this temple with great pomp and ceremony. Some of the popular festivals celebrated are the Kalyanam festival in May, Devi Navaratri festival in September, the Swayamvara Vardhanti of Sraavana Suddha Ekadashi Day, Srirama Kalyana, Kanakadurga Yatra, Prabha Utsavam, Teppa Utsavam and Jalatoranam.

The serene atmosphere of the temple and its surroundings captivate devotees of Lord Veera Venkata Satya-narayana Swamy. The prasadam (loosely translated as "blessed food") offered to the devotees has a wonderful taste that cannot be replicated.

History

According to the Puranas, the presiding deity, Lord Sri Sathyanarayana Swamy, blesses the devotees with Anina Varam ("Wanted Boon"). It is commonly known now as Annavaram (EG Dist). There is a history of Annavaram elsewhere; this temple was founded as a result of a dream inspiring members of the Akhila Brahmana Seva Samakya in dream during their stay in Annavaram (EG Dist) in connection with the Andhra Pradesh Brahmana Sabha. Planning began in 1999, with the Sri Gayathri Arsha Vidya Mandir Trust, and construction was completed in 2006.
