Overview
Chinese Music Group (CMG) was first established in late 1995. It is the only music-related group among the Chinese-cultural based societies in the University of Melbourne.
CMG provides a platform for people, especially international students in Melbourne University who are interested in either contemporary Chinese music or Western music. At the same time, CMG also tries to promote Chinese culture to the university community, locally and internationally alike.
Activities
Since 2001, singing competitions have been organised on a yearly basis. The nominations include "the Most Popular Idol" and "the Best Voice".
Unlike other theatre groups at the University of Melbourne, CMG presents a musical production annually, which involves participation from CMG Music Department orchestra members. The orchestra not only consists of Western instrument players, but also traditional Chinese instrument players.
