For their fifth event in 2015, the festival received 3,117 entries from 104 countries on five continents.

Origin

Started by 2010, as one of the principle part of the 6th China (Shenzhen) International Cultural Industry Fair, the first China International New Media-Movies-TV-Animation Festival, settled in Shenzhen.

In the past, China held a number of film festivals, TV festivals, animation festivals, etc., but none of them featured new media short films. The significance of holding a new media movie-TV-animation festival is that such a festival not only sets itself apart from other festivals and realizes differentiated development, but also fills the gap that China has had in this field. It will lead to and conduce to the establishment of rules and standards for new media movie-TV-animation development as well as the healthy rapid development of the new media audio visual industry.

The 1st China International New Media Movie-TV-Animation Festival consists of four major sections: activity, transaction, forum, and exposition. In 2012, the Organizing Committee used the name “China International New Media Short Film Festival” from the 3rd year, taking place of “China International New Media-Movies-TV-Animation Festival”.

The KingBonn Award of China International New Media Short Film Festival is specially set up, with the highest award category awarding RMB 300,000.

The name of the KingBonn Award is derived from the abbreviated name of Shenzhen City – Pengcheng (Chinese Pinyin, literally meaning "the city of roc"). KingBonn implies that the new media movie-TV-animation industry will thrive and soar.
