Umpiring career

Chettithody Shamsuddin was appointed as the Indian representative to the International Panel of ICC Umpires in the third umpire category in 2013. In 2015, he was elevated to the on-field category of the International Panel and now officiates more frequently in ODIs and T20Is as an on-field umpire. In 2016, he was elevated to the ICC Emerging Panel, where he would be in line for future promotion, as a result of his several consistent performances during the last year. He has given a controversial not out decision as a TV umpire in Sri Lanka Vs Zimbabwe test match at Colombo, in July 2017, in one of the tests with Zimbabwe, he ruled Sri Lankan Player Dickwella, NOT OUT, when the technology and Camera angles showed that his foot was on the line, when the wicket keeper stumped him. Such a poor decision, and it questions his umpiring abilities.
