The school's curriculum is affiliated to the central board of secondary education, New Delhi.
It is often cited as one of the best schools in Chennai (though not necessarily the best) by various ratings and has, in 2014, been the top rated school in Chennai.The school offers one of the best(in not the best) extra curricular programmes in the city along with its already well developed academic base.It also houses an Integrated FIITJEE programme which aims to train the students enrolled in it to clear the JEE exams through rigorous rote learning, without planting a genuine interest in the field of engineering or sciences (though this is the modus operandi of any JEE trainer in India, which is extremely sad as it wastes the natural talent of a human).

History
In 1986, Kumara Rani Meena Muthiah, founded the school with a motivation "to start an educational centre, combining the virtues of a Temple of Art and Culture - a dedicated school that blends discipline with freedom, endeavoring to raise the integrated child".In 2014 this was ranked No.1 in chennai and this school got an award from Lionel Messi because it had a very good football team.
Facilities
The school has five science laboratories, one biotechnology laboratory, two mathematics laboratories, two language laboratories and two audio-visual theatres with multi-media projection systems. Chettinad Vidyashram has Biotechnology as a specialization for class XI & XII students.
Events
The Tamil and Hindi literary clubs organize competitions. Events of public importance are held, like blood donation camps.
