The station is located on North Second Ring Road, Jinniu District, to the North of the city centre. It is governed by Chengdu Railway Bureau and is one of the most important hubs of the railway network in China.

Nicknames
This railway station is commonly called by locals as "Huǒ Chē Běi Zhàn"(North Railway Station), as the connecting Chengdu Metro station is called. However, confusingly there is another officially named Chengdu North Railway Station, 17 km north of this station, which is a large freight marshalling area and handles no passengers.
Connections
Chengdu Railway Station is the terminus of the main Baoji–Chengdu railway line, Chengdu–Chongqing railway line, Chengdu–Kunming railway line, Chengdu–Dujiangyan high-speed railway line, and Dazhou–Chengdu railway line.
Chengdu Railway Station can be reached by taking Chengdu Metro Line 1.
