Chen Hualan (simplified Chinese: 陈化兰; traditional Chinese: 陳化蘭; pinyin: Chén Huàlán; born 1969) is a Chinese animal virologist best known for researching animal epidemic diseases. She is a member of the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) and a member of the Food and Agriculture Organization Corporate Statistical Database (FAOSTAT). She is now a researcher and PhD Supervisor at Harbin Veterinary Research Institute of Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences.

She has been listed among the "Ten Scientific Figures of the Year" by Nature in 2013. She won the L'Oréal-UNESCO Awards for Women in Science in 2016.
Biography
Born in Baiyin, Gansu in 1969, Chen graduated with a master's degree in veterinary pathobiology from Gansu Agricultural University in 1994. Then she earned a doctorate in preventive veterinary medicine from Graduate School of Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences in 1997. After graduation she worked as a research assistant in its Harbin Veterinary Research Insititute. From 1999 to 2002 she studied at Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) completed her post-doctoral research. Chen went back to China in 2002 and that year became a researcher at Harbin Veterinary Research Insititute, director of its Key Laboratory of Animal Influenza, as well as director of the National Bird Flu Research Laboratory.

Chen is married and has a son.
