Chelmonops curiosus (the western talma, squareback butterflyfish or truncate coralfish) is a species of butterflyfish in the genus Chelmonops endemic to Australia. It is also known commonly as the truncate butterflyfish.

Description

The western talma resembles the eastern talma (Chelmonops truncatus); however, the western talma is distinguished by its longer dorsal and anal fins, and deeper body. Chelmonops curiosus grows to 26 cm in length.

Range and habitat

Chelmonops curiosus ranges in eastern Indian Ocean and off of Australia. It is found around coral reefss at a depth range 51 – 57 m.
