Species

Cheilodactylus Cheilodactylus francisi

The genus used to contain species currently assigned to Chirodactylus, Morwong, and Goniistius, but DNA analysis found those species to be nested within Latridae and more derived than the kelpfish and marblefish and the Cheilodactylus type species. The magpie perch (Cheilodactylus nigripes) and red moki (Cheilodactylus spectabilis) are clearly not congeneric with the either Cheilodactylus fasciatus or C. pixi and are in need of new generic names
