Biography

Baird was born in Seattle, Washington and raised in Salt Lake City, Utah. He was exposed to creative musicianship at an early age by his father, a trumpet player who played in rock bands and owned an eclectic collection of instruments. He began studying the saxophone around age ten and progressed rapidly. By age 14, he was discovered and mentored by the late great tenor saxophonist Michael Brecker. His family eventually relocated to the San Francisco Bay Area where began to collaborate with other young musicians, including pianist Julian Waterfall Pollack. Baird studied both music and psychology at California State University, Long Beach, and eventually transferred to the Juilliard School in New York City.

In addition to his work in jazz with artists including drummer Antonio Sánchez, guitarist Nir Felder, vocalist Thana Alexa and others, he has also performed with popular artists Chaka Khan and Matthew Morrison. He is also featured in the soundtrack to Emancipated, a 2009 film by P.K. Ziainia with music by composer Rodrigo Denis.
