Charley Ferrer (born April 1963, in Puerto Rico), became the first Latina Doctor of Human Sexuality in the United States in 2000 receiving her doctoral degree from the Institute of Advanced Study of Human Sexuality. Her first book, The W.I.S.E. Journal for the Sensual Woman, won best self-help book in 2002 from the Latino Literary Hall of Fame. She has since gone on to write thirteen other books on sexuality and self-empowerment including her international best-seller, BDSM The Naked Truth. Since 1996, she has lectured throughout the US, Latin America and China on sexual health,reform and education; alternative lifestyles; and self-empowerment affecting the lives of hundreds of thousands.

In 2005, Ferrer spoke before the World Association of Sexology and the Latin International Physicians congress on sexual reform, self-empowerment and the controversial topic of dominance and submission. She was so dedicated to the sexual empowerment of others she collaborated with medical providers from Latin America, Venezuela and Argentina to establish the Institute of Pleasure (Instituto de Placer). In 2006, Dr. Ferrer was recognized as a "Groundbreaking Latina Leaders” for her work in the field of Sexology and Sexual Health by the National Association for Latina Leaders. She has taught psychology and human sexuality courses in various colleges and universities including Rutgers University in Newark New Jersey.
In 2012, Ferrer created a 3-day Intensive Workshop program for authors to teach them about the alternative lifestyle of dominance and submission. This three-day program quickly became a highly sought after conference for authors, readers and anyone interested in writing about BDSM. By 2015, BDSM Writers Con had grown from a handful of participants to 150 strong where anyone interested in discovering the realities of BDSM are able to do so through workshops, live demonstrations, and a night out at a BDSM dungeon. One of the journalists for The Guardian, Kim Wall wrote an in-depth article considering all she experienced during her attendance of BDSM Writers Con.
Charley Ferrer continues to educate men and women throughout the world empowering them to take charge of their sexuality. She credits Wilhelm Reich and Margaret Sanger as inspirations for her desire to help others achieve a full health pleasurable life free of sexual restrictions. She has written over thirteen books on sexuality and has edited two anthologies several of which have been translated into Spanish. (See list below.)
Dr. Ferrer is highly sought after for her expertise in sexuality and BDSM and has been interviewed in the NY Times, Cosmo, Forum UK and several prominent newspapers and magazines. She's appeared on national television shows such as Dr. Oz and hosted her own TV & radio show between 2007 & 2010.
