Charlestown Square is a major regional shopping centre in Charlestown, New South Wales, a suburb of the city of Lake Macquarie. It is owned and operated by General Property Trust. It was formerly managed by Lend Lease Corporation.

Contents

Originally built in 1979 as a 2-storey structure, the centre has undergone several extensions and renovations. It currently has over 170 stores and is one of the largest shopping centres in the Hunter Region. The centre now has 3 levels, and includes two food courts.

The centre features a Myer, Big W, Target, JB Hi Fi, Coles, Woolworths, Aldi, H&M and numerous other stores.

From 2008 to 2010, the centre underwent a major $470 million expansion after obtaining support from Lake Macquarie City Council. A number of people have been opposed to the expansion, including local member of parliament Matthew Morris.

The expansion has over 100 new shops, a new 8-screen Reading Cinema, including 2 Gold Lounge cinemas, and employment for an additional 1300 people, significantly boosting the local economy.

August 2015 saw Charlestown Square undergo a major redevelopment in the former Best and Less mall. The development means the closure of 34 retailers in the mean time but is set to bring major international retailers such as H&M, Zara and Topshop to the hunter region. The development is also remixing the centre and has prompted existing retailers to undergo renovations.

H&M opened at Charlestown Square on the 14th of July 2016 along with a Cotton On Flagship store. German Supermarket Aldi also opened within the centre in 2016. Topshop is due to open November 2016 with the final major store to open early 2017 making the completion of current works. This development has brought many new retailers including MAC cosmetics, Mecca Maxima, Swarovski and many more.
