Charles was the 5th Baron Marion, coming from a family of military officers. He was appointed general in 1942 and served as a prefect for the French Vichy government. After liberation during World War II he was imprisoned in 1944 and sentenced to death by a court martial. From there he was kidnapped and executed by fighters of the French resistance group FTP as a representative of the hated Vichy regime.
