Charity Checkout is a social enterprise that provides online payment services for charities. The company was formed in 2009 and the companys’s headquarters are situated in Hertfordshire.

Overview

Charity Checkout provides charities with both credit/ debit card and Direct Debit payment processing facilities. The company is a registered HMRC Gift Aid agent and also processes Gift Aid on behalf of its charity clients.

History

The company was founded by Chester Mojay-Sinclare in 2009, and its flagship payment service Charity Checkout was launched in 2011. Mojay-Sinclare was still a student when the company was launched, and was already renowned for his innovative entrepreneurial ideas, including a widely publicised project that involved the launch of a potato into near space. In 2012, the company secured an undisclosed six-figure investment and began expansion across the UK. The company now employs over ten people and according to Mojay-Sinclare is looking to expand further.

In 2014, Charity Checkout was selected for The Big Venture Challenge, a lottery funded programme offering up to £2m in investment for social enterprises in the UK.

Clients

Charity Checkout reports to have raised over £10m for charity and has over 1,000 charity clients, including Citizens Advice, MTV Staying Alive Foundation and The Royal Society of Arts.

Fees

The credit/debit card transaction costs for Charity Checkout are 2.43% of the gross donation (including Gift Aid).
