History

The village came into existence nearly 300 years ago when four brothers of the Ahir caste, namely Jokhi, Sunder, Bhadsaram and Gokul (Gokal) arrived and set up home in the area. Over the years, there have been more than 12 generations who have lived in the village. The village has four pana's (mohalla), namely Jokhan, Sunderan, Bhadsan and Gokalan, which are extended family of the four brothers.

Location and weather

Changrod comes under the Charkhi Dadri taluka (tehsil) of Bhiwani district. It is located 2 kilometres (1.2 mi) from the Badhwana road at Dadri-Narnaul Road. The district headquarters of Bhiwani is approximately 50 kilometres (31 mi) away, the tehsil centre, Charkhi Dadri, about 17 kilometres (11 mi) away and the capital Delhi 130 kilometres (81 mi) to the east. The land is desert and extremely hot in summer, experiencing reverse conditions in the winter.

People

Most of the people in Changrod are from the Ahir community, which belongs to the Dabur gotra. There is a sizable community of other castes, such as Brahmins, Banias, Kumhars, Darzis, Khatis and Harijans. There are also a small number of Bawariyas and a single Muslim family, who were saved by the village people during the 1947 partition of India.

As of the 2011 Census of India, the population of Changrod was 3,604 made up of 1,908 males and 1,696 females.Literacy rate is 80.90 % of which 66.82% of females are educated and 94.04% of males. Almost all the roads of the village are made of concrete and there are option of water drainage system (Nali). The village has two primary schools each for boys and girls and one privately owned primary school. The Higher secondary school has served the village for more than 40 years. The village has connectivity to cellphone and internet. Bharti Airtel has set a tower near the village bus stop. The public transportation system is fairly basic, even after years of road connectivity to Charkhi Dadri and Kanina.

Employment

The majority of the people work on ancestral farms, but they also exhibit a special attachment towards the Indian Armed Forces. Besides that, the newer generations are more attracted to reputed positions like teaching, engineering and technology.A books library has been opened in 2015 for helping young students to access to additional knowledge contents.

Agriculture

There is an acute ground level water shortage due to weather conditions as only it rains during the months of July and August. An irrigation canal exists on both sides of village, but normally it is dry, so crops depend mainly on rain. The major crops of this area are millet, wheat, mustard and chickpea/gram.
