Cerebrolysin is a mixture of peptides purified from pig brains, including (and not limited to) brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF), glial cell line-derived neurotrophic factor (GDNF), nerve growth factor (NGF), and ciliary neurotrophic factor (CNTF).

While cerebrolysin is used for stroke and vascular dementia there is insufficient evidence to support this use. It is also sold as a nootropic.

There is some tentative evidence of cognitive function in people with vascular dementia, possibly through decreased beta-amyloid deposition. Despite this, cerebrolysin is approved to treat stroke in many European and Asian countries.
