Cavan General Hospital is a public hospital located in Cavan, County Cavan, Ireland. It is managed by the Irish Government's Health Service Executive and provides acute-care hospital services, including a 24-hour emergency department, for the population County Cavan and County Monaghan. In 2008, the hospital served 55,234 out-patients, and 14,822 in-patients, with an average stay of 4.5 nights. In 2009, 72% of admissions were made via the accident and emergency department or 10,672 patients. 32,672 patients presented to the emergency department. The hospital saw 8,430 day cases in the same year. In 2008, there were 1,949 live births.

Transport & access

There are car parking areas located in the hospital grounds. The hospital is a short taxi journey or around 15–20 minutes on foot from the centre of Cavan. Leydons Coaches route 930 (Cavan-Ballyconnell-Enniskillen), Bus Éireann route 175 (Cavan-Cootehill-Monaghan) and Whartons Travel route 975 Longford-Arva-Cavan (operated on behalf of the National Transport Authority) provide public bus links to/from the hospital.

The hospital provides 264 beds, of which 193 are in-patient acute beds, while 46 are reserved for acute day cases. A further 25 beds are for psychiatric services. In-patient services include general medicine, general surgery, accident and emergency, dermatology, nephrology and dialysis, oncology, ophthalmology, obstetrics and gynaecology, vascular surgery, paediatrics, respiratory medicine, anaesthesia, radiology.
