Early life

Catherine Pirotta was born in Lima, Peru. She traveled to the United States to attend the film program at Los Angeles City College and UCLA. Her writing and directing was recognized by Women In Film and she received a WIF mentor scholarship.

Recognition

Pirotta has received several awards for her writing, directing and excellence in filmmaking including acknowledgment from the ABC Network, Women In Film and Tribeca. Her 2002 project Nobody's Fault was selected for the top honor at The Peruvian Film Festival in her native Lima.

In 2003, her screenplay Adopting Change gained her a "Recognition of Creative Excellence" from the ABC Network and gained critical acclaim in festivals around the world, including Edward James Olmos' 2004 LALIFF Film Festival.

She then wrote and directed the drama 5 Minutes starring Roark Critchlow; the film was selected (among other festivals) as part of the official competition at the 2005 HBO New York Latino International Film Festival. Pirotta recently directed the feature film Dreamkiller a psychological thriller starring John Savage.

Upcoming projects

Pirotta will partner with producer Dario Deak to adapt Fred Rochlin’s memoir, Old Man in a Baseball Cap into a feature film under the working title The Silent War. Initially optioned by Disney, it is currently in development with Delaware Pictures with Pirotta attached to direct. She is represented by Barry Hirsch whose clients include Clive Owen, Winona Ryder and Michelle Pfeiffer.
