Cateura

Cateura is a small town in Paraguay located about 6 miles south of Asuncion on the Paraguay River. It has a population of about 10,000. It is a poor, unsafe area in the Bañado Sur region. It is the home to Paraguay's main landfill, and many of its inhabitants live by scavenging for parts and selling them. However, it has partially recovered due to a well-publicized music program, the Recycled Orchestra of Cateura, which has grown famous after appearing with many bands; the Orchestra is directed and was founded by Favio Chavez.
