Carney R. Shegerian is an employment trial lawyer and founding attorney of Shegerian & Associates, Inc. His clients have been awarded two of the largest verdicts in California employment law history. Carney is also a regular contributor to many local and national news outlets regarding various legal and employment matters.

Major cases

Shegerian represented client Bobby Nickel in an age discrimination lawsuit brought against Staples. The case resulted in the largest employment verdict in Los Angeles legal history, $26 million.

Shegerian represented client T.J. Simers, a well known journalist for the Los Angeles Times, in a disability discrimination/wrongful termination lawsuit brought against the organization. The case resulted in a $7.1 million verdict against the LA Times. Shegerian was also featured on the cover of the Los Angeles Daily Journal following the verdict in a piece titled "Landmark Verdict in Age Discrimination Lawsuit".

Shegerian represented client Brandi Cochran, a former "The Price is Right" television show model, after she was refused work after being on maternity leave. The case resulted in a $8.5 million verdict.

Shegerian is part of a team of attorneys representing clients in a case against Bikram Choudhury, founder of Bikram Yoga, in lawsuits alleging sexual assault and abuse by former employees. The lawsuit is set for trial in 2016 and has received widespread media attention due to the nature of the allegations.

Shegerian represented 34 year old April Rodriguez who was discriminated against after seven years of employment due to a mental disability. The case resulted in a $21.8 million verdict.

Shegerian represented Rite Aid store manager Robert Leggins, who was harassed, punished, and ultimately fired after sustaining a neck injury while at work during a robbery. The case resulted in a $8.7 million verdict.

Shegerian represented James Duffy, a 63 year old gardener for LA's Department of Recreation and Parks for over 20 years, who was harassed at work due to a disability stemming from a 2004 work related accident in addition to his race, ancestry, and retaliated against after complaining to superiors about the same. A jury ruled unanimously in favor of Duffy and awarded him with a $3.25 verdict.

Awards and nominations

In 2013, Shegerian was named the Consumer Attorneys Association of Los Angeles (CAALA) Trial Lawyer of the Year.

Shegerian was recognized in 2013 & 2014 by TopVerdicts as having tried and won a case resulting in a top 100 verdict in the nation.
