Carlos Henry Bosdet

Carlos Henry Bosdet was an electrical engineer, born in 1857, in Arichat, Nova Scotia, Canada. He was the first man to bring and install the first telephone lines in Mexico during President Porfirio Diaz era.

Biography

Carlos Henry Bosdet Carlos Henry Bosdet Fixott 1878 Pionero de la Telefona en Mxico

Carlos Henry Bosdet Fixott was the first Bosdet member of the family to be born in America, originally from Jersey. From Jersey, emigrating to Canada, and finally arrived to Mexico. Carlos Henry Bosdet graduated from McGill University in Montreal, Quebec, Canada and was hired by Ericsson Telephone Company when he was 21 years old, and what brought the Bosdet family to Mexico.

He was sent to Mexico to install the first line at the Chapultepec Castle National Palace on February 16, 1878 during President Porfirio Diaz era. He stayed in Mexico in different states to install telephone lines and by the end of the century there were five thousand units across Mexico. He is credited to bring the first telephone lines to different states in Mexico, and prompted Ericsson Telephone Company from Sweden to invest more in Mexico.

Carlos married Susan Miller who he met in Puebla, she was the daughter of an Englishman from Manchester England. He had three sons- Ernesto (1883), Carlos (1887) and Enrique (1893). He died in 1893, due to complications of a bullfighting wound when he was 36 years old. His sons stayed in Mexico and his decedents still live in Mexico today.

In Arichat, Nova Scotia, Canada in the Anglican Church the St. John stained glass window shows the names of Carlos Henry Bosdet and his ascendents, along with a road name called “Bosdet Point” in their memory.
