Biography

Camila Luna CAMILA LUNA FROM COLLEGE TO THE LATIN GRAMMYS LatinTRENDScom

Camila Barbeito was born on Octubre 9, 1993 in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Her parents are Vilma Salomon (half Puerto Rican, half Venezuelan) and Manuel Barbeito (parents from Santiago, Cuba but was raised in Puerto Rico), an anesthesiologist. She moved to Richmond, Virginia with her family when she was 2 years old and moved to Miami when she was 3. Her passion for music and writing began to naturally come about when she was quite young. Camila began to write her first poems and verses as well as play piano at the age of 4 years old, and eventually began to play guitar when she was 13 after being taught by her uncle. During that time she figured out that her poems could include melodies, and all of the material she had written for years slowly became songs. Once she finished high school in Miami it was time to make an important life decision: study for a “normal” career path or continue her love affair with the arts. Luckily, Camila found the perfect happy medium in the University of Miami, where she majored in Poetry and Modern Languages and graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Creative Writing (Poetry) in May of 2015. The writing did not stop and neither did her process of perfecting the more than 100 songs that she already had in her repertoire. Camila met Jose Luis "Cheo" Pardo of Los Amigos Invisibles by what she describes as "pure luck" and he agreed to produce her first album. These recording sessions became meetings between friends with similar musical tastes, and they were able to create the essence of Camila Luna’s sound.

The music video for the song "Flamboyán" was filmed by Luna herself using her iPhone in San Juan, Puerto Rico. She released her single "Siento" in February 2016 which had great success on Spotify as well, reaching 3 million streams. Talk Shop Studios filmed the video for "Siento" in Los Angeles, California using a 1965 baby blue Mustang convertible.
