Background

Hunt was one of eight children. Hunt knew the struggle of growing up as a child of an alcoholic mother who later became born again. Hunt began singing at age 5. Hunt started working at the age of 12. He worked at an Italian pizzeria in Queens, New York for four years to help out his mother. At age 16 Hunt worked construction, moved out on his own, and started a band as a lead singer. Hunt married his wife Miriam on April 14, 1984 after returning from the US army. Miriam had two children from her previous marriage, Monique and Freddy. Later Hunt fathered Mia and Calvin Jr.

When Hunt's group fell through he continued writing and singing for friends and family, doing block parties, etc. Hunt later became addicted to crack cocaine. Eventually, with the prayer of his wife and children and his Church, The Brooklyn Tabernacle, Hunt rehabilitated and became a full-time minister. Hunt used his gift in the Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir and the Brooklyn Tabernacle Singers, with whom he won a Grammy and a Dove Award.

Hunt Recorded 4 of 5 Albums 1 unreleased. Released Albums years 1998 - 2007.

In 2005, Hunt's oldest daughter Monique was murdered by Robert Garcia in front of her two sons Ian & Justin. Hunt and his wife continued raising the three children Keith, Ian & Justin. Hunt was also diagnosed with lung cancer but he continued to perform. His 2008 album, Bridges, was nominated for a Dove Award for Contemporary Gospel Album of the Year, with the song "Come On" being nominated for Contemporary Gospel Recorded Song of the Year.

Hunt has been on radio and television shows like Good Morning America, Good Morning New York and 700 Club, TBN, Hunt has played every kind of gig, concerts, coffee houses, homeless shelters, schools, prisons. Hunt's love for Christ brought him to many states a few counties. His passion was to share Jesus with everyone who would hear him.

Hunt had been battling cancer and died from cardiac arrest on December 26, 2009 in Jamaica Hospital in Queens, New York.
