Callan (Irish: Callainn) is a barony in County Kilkenny, Republic of Ireland.

Etymology
The name Callan is from the town of Callan (Irish Callainn, "callows", a term which refers to long coarse grass thrown up in summer on marshy land which has been waterlogged all winter).
Location
Callan is located in westernmost County Kilkenny. The Kings River flows through it, and was sometimes called the Callan River.
History
The Ó Glóiairn (O'Gloran) were chiefs of Callainn.
