Irvine, California-based CalAtlantic Homes (formerly Standard Pacific Homes) is America's 11th largest homebuilder as of 2015. Engaged in the development of single-family and multi-family homes, Standard Pacific has built homes for more than 113,000 families during its 46-year history. The Company constructs homes within a wide range of price and size targeting a broad range of homebuyers. Standard Pacific operates in many of the largest housing markets in the country with operations in major metropolitan areas in California, Florida, Arizona, the Carolinas, Texas, Colorado and Nevada.

In June 2015, Standard Pacific Homes and Ryland Homes announced the companies were merging. The combined company was expected to be the nation's fourth largest home builder. Following the merger the name was changed to CalAtlantic Group, Inc.

History

The company now known as Standard Pacific Homes was incorporated in 1961 by Arthur Svendsen and Ronald Foell, and began construction of its first subdivision in 1965. Operations expanded to include San Diego in 1969, Northern California in 1970, Texas in 1978, and Arizona in 1998. Since then the company has expanded into new markets primarily by acquiring established homebuilders in those areas. Between 1969 and 1997 the company built most of its homes in Orange, San Diego and Riverside counties. Bob Allan started Standard Pacific of San Diego in 1969 and built over 5000 homes until retiring in 1998. Standard Pacific of San Diego built more homes in the cities of Carlsbad and Poway than any other builder.
