The co-cathedral of Maria Santissima Assunta e Santo Stefano Vescovo is the principal church of Caiazzo, province of Caserta. Previously the cathedral of a diocese of Caiazzo, but with the joining to the diocese of Alife to form the Diocese of Alife-Caiazzo in 1986, it became co-cathedral. In 2013, it was made minor basilica.

History

The church is putatively sited atop a pagan Roman temple. The capitals of the prior church showed derivation from a Roman structure. Restructuring of the church has occurred over the centuries.
