Preparation

Cadmium tetrafluoroborate is prepared from the reaction between an aqueous solution of fluoroboric acid and cadmium carbonate or cadmium oxide.

Uses

Its primary uses are to prepare electroplating baths for high strength steels where normal cyanide baths cause problems of hydrogen embrittlement.
