The Cadillac CT6 (short for Cadillac Touring 6) is a full-size luxury car manufactured by Cadillac, first introduced at the 2015 New York International Auto Show and first sold in the US for the 2016 model year. It is the first car under Cadillac's president (Johan De Nysschen) leadership to adopt Cadillac's revised naming strategy, as well as the first rear-wheel drive full-size Cadillac sedan since the Fleetwood was discontinued in 1996. It is built on a different platform than the smaller CTS and is engineered as a rear-wheel drive vehicle with optional all-wheel drive. In addition to its primary markets of North America and China, the CT6 is also offered in Europe, Korea, Japan, Israel and the Middle East.

Overview

The Omega-platform Cadillac CT6, which surpasses the length and width of the large Cadillac XTS, uses a mix of steel and aluminum to keep the large full size sedan weight much lower than anything else in its class. As a result, the vehicle weighs less than the smaller Cadillac CTS that slots below the larger Cadillac XTS but above the compact Cadillac ATS.

The CT6 does not replace the front-wheel drive XTS, which is shorter by 2.0 in (51 mm) and 10.7 in (272 mm) in exterior and wheelbase length respectively, as well as 1.1 in (28 mm) in width and 15.3 cu ft (433 l) in interior space. The CT6 was intended to serve as Cadillac's temporary flagship model until the larger, more luxurious CT8 sedan was brought to fruition. However, in April 2016, Cadillac reportedly canceled the CT8 project due to a market shift to luxury SUV models, although this has not been officially confirmed yet. The CT6 rivals models such as the BMW 7 Series, Audi A8, Mercedes-Benz S-Class, and Lexus LS as far as size, but with a lower starting price.

The CT6 is manufactured at GM's Detroit/Hamtramck Assembly plant, and as of March 11, 2016, the first CT6 delivery took place, having been delivered to the winner of a 2015 auction for the first CT6 sold. The vehicle sold for $200,000 at the auction. The car was "Platinum" trim level and painted Stellar Black Metallic.

Interior

In addition to the base CT6, there are three trim packages labeled "Luxury", "Premium Luxury" and "Platinum". Installed within the CT6 is the second generation CUE system, 4G LTE connectivity, and an 8 speaker Bose audio system, a Bose Centerpoint 10 speaker system included with the "Luxury" and "Premium Luxury" package, with a 34-speaker Bose Panaray audio system included with the top level "Platinum" package. Cadillac once again offers the Enhanced Night Vision which was discontinued as of 2004 on the DeVille. Available equipment includes Adaptive Cruise Control, as well as Magnetic Ride Control coupled with accident avoidance technologies. New with the CT6 is the Rear Camera Mirror, which uses streaming video from a camera that displays within the rear view mirror, which provides an enhanced view without obstructions from the "C-pillar" and passengers sitting in the rear area. The front seats can be adjusted 14 different ways, with an optional 16- or 20-way adjustment package that includes heated and cooled seat with a massage feature for both front and rear passengers. Rear seat passengers are also offered, retractable 10" LCD screens that extract up from the back of the front seat seatbacks, behind the front seat headrests that can play Blu-Ray content for brought-in devices, that were introduced on the Cadillac Escala concept car.

Powertrain

The CT6 is initially available with a choice of three engines, a 4-cylinder 2.0-liter turbo and two V6 engines, a 3.6-liter and a 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged offering 404 hp (301 kW) and 400 lb·ft (542 N·m) together with cylinder deactivation. The CT6 will be available in both rear-wheel drive (standard on four-cylinder models) and all-wheel drive (standard on all six-cylinder models). A 4.2-liter twin-turbo V8 engine should follow soon.

CT6 PHEV

A plug-in hybrid variant, the CT6 PHEV, debuted at the 2015 Shanghai Auto Show. The plug-in hybrid uses a similar drive unit as the current Chevrolet Volt (second generation) but a different engine. The car asembled in China by Shanghai GM. The CT6 plug-in hybrid was released in the Chinese market in December 2016. Sales in the U.S. are scheduled to begin in the second quarter of 2017. Pricing in China starts at CN¥558,800 (~US$80,408), and the higher trim at CN¥658,800 (~ US$94,683); in the U.S. will start at US$76,090, both, before any applicable government incentives.

The CT6 plug-in hybrid features a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder gasoline engine, two electric motors, and an 18.4 kWh lithium-ion battery pack, which is integrated into the car floor as well as a e-CVT Total system output is 449 horsepower, capable of accelerating the CT6 from 0 to 62 mph in 5.6 seconds. General Motors expects an all-electric range of 37 mi (60 km).
