History

On February 10, 2003, the Haliburton County Community Radio Association received Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) approval to operate a new english-language FM community radio station at 100.9 MHz in Haliburton, Ontario. Canoe FM, as a not for profit volunteer based community radio station, is the Voice of the Haliburton Highlands. Our mission is to provide balanced programming, including entertainment and vital information. Canoe FM strives to showcase local talent and meet community needs. Canoe FM will remain a strong partner in the development of our community. Canoe programming is designed for full time, part-time and seasonal residents of Haliburton County. The CRTC mandate requires that Canoe have content that spans a vast majority of the music genres balancing music with talk and information exchange while at the same time providing a stage for Canadian artists and their music. Canoe FM has it all and that’s what makes Canoe unique! Canoe is staffed by over 100 volunteers and 3 paid positions. Canoe FM is managed by a volunteer board of directors that are elected by volunteers at an Annual General Meeting. The Canoe board meets the 4th Thursday of each month. For information contact our Station Manager at 705-457-1009. Canoe FM has a Radio Hall which is an intimate and welcoming space for both live and recorded programs. Concerts, debates, storytelling, poetry, album launches, are just some of the activities that our Radio Hall can host. Local musicians and groups are welcome to promote their works. It’s also available for regional artists and new groups who wish to record a live CD.

The station signed on in July 2003.
