C. John Wilder (born 1958) is a U.S. energy industry executive who in 2007 led his company in the largest leveraged buyout in the world to date.

Education

A native of Kennett, Missouri, Wilder graduated magna cum laude from Southeast Missouri State University with a bachelor's degree in business administration, and he has received the university’s Alumni Merit Award. He earned a master's degree in business administration from the University of Texas.

Business

Wilder is executive chairman of Bluescape Resources, an independent resource company with operations in the United States and Italy. Wilder is also chairman of Parallel Resource Partners, an energy investment fund with Carlson Capital that invests in distressed oil and gas assets. Wilder is chairman of the John and Susan Wilder Foundation.

Wilder is credited with financial and operational turnarounds at two major energy companies, as chairman of the board and chief executive officer of TXU Corp (now Energy Future Holdings Corporation) - culminating in a leveraged buyout of approximately $45 billion - and as chief financial officer at Entergy Corporation. He joined Entergy in 1998 after nearly 20 years with Royal Dutch Shell, where he rose to the position of chief executive officer of Shell Capital in London. In 2010 the Harvard Business Review named Wilder one of "the Best-Performing CEOs in the World". Wilder was ranked 24th among nearly 2,000 CEOs, from large public companies worldwide, whose performance was analyzed by HBR.
