Shooting began on January 22, 2013, in Los Angeles. After shooting for two weeks, the crew took a break, with a planned resumption in March 2013. In April 2014, Cyril Humphris announced that he had filed a lawsuit against Franco that alleges that Franco had adapted Ham on Rye without the necessary film rights. The suit was later dropped.
