Life and career
Jefferson was born in Mansfield, Ohio, on May 23, 1954. He is a 1972 graduate of Mansfield Senior High School and studied fine art at The Ohio State University, under noteworthy artist Al Newbill. As he further enhanced his talent, Mr. Jefferson developed his own special style relying heavily on ‘touch and feel.’ Jefferson sometimes mixes precious metals into his works. His art can best be described as contemporary and spirit filled with great emotion using textures and placement of color at optimal levels. He is broadly known as being a colorist - recognized for being selective of color and the proper usage of it. For the past twenty-two (22) years, Mr. Jefferson has been a full-time artist, in Chicago, having created and placed into homes and businesses over 1,800 pieces.
His love for art moved him to open and operate his own gallery, Studio B, in Chicago’s affluent Gold Coast, to feature his work. Studio B was open from 1991 until 1999. He is expanding his existing studio into New York City. In January, 2010, he released the 26:59 minute video/documentary, Museum Detours - three (3) years in the making, that features original art forms including 160 of his paintings; authentic poetry and prose; spoken arts; distinctive musical soundtrack and unique videography and graphics that can be seen at:
His works have been featured in Better Homes and Gardens, Ebony Magazine, Time Out Chicago Magazine, Chicago Collection Magazine, African Art: The Diaspora and Beyond - The Daniel Texidor Parker Collection (book) among newsprint and additional publications. His image has been featured in the social columns of Today’s Chicago Woman Magazine and Michigan Avenue Magazine. Mr. Jefferson is affiliated with the Chicago Artists’ Coalition. He has appeared on "Into the Night" with Chris Wakefield on KHND - AM Radio, covering greater North Dakota and parts of Canada, and Podcast (internet) and WBEZ – FM, Chicago Public Radio. Mr. Jefferson and/or his art have been featured on Superstation WGN, in Chicago and cablevision feeds throughout the United States, NBC 5, ABC 7, CBS 2 and WFLD FOX 32, in Chicago.
Mr. Jefferson’s video/documentary, "Museum Detours", is scheduled for May, 2010, broadcast on CAN-TV, Chicago. April, 2010, his art will be available to view by, currently, 80,000,000 iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad users provided through Moosgo – Apps. On March 26, 2010, New Artist Radio proudly announced the marriage of ‘Indie’ (independent) Film and Indie Music with New Artist Radio’s global release of Museum Detours at: http://newartistradio.net/?p=2826 Not only is Museum Detours their first film release, he is the first painter ever featured. New Artist Radio is the number one internet source for independent artists - with over 1,200 global feeds. Mr. Jefferson and his artwork have been brought to the attention of key staff at Christie’s and Sotheby’s – international fine art auctions.
