History

Founded in 1958 as the Anglo-American School, the British School of Barcelona was authorised to offer a British education to pupils of all nationalities, (including Spanish citizens) in October 1979.

Facilities

The school is located 20 miles from Barcelona, and serves children from the city and surrounding areas. Facilities at the school include classrooms, a library, laboratories, Information Technology suites, Music and Audio-visual rooms, Gymnasium, outdoor sports facilities and a theatre. It also includes access to Gran Via Mar swimming pool and sports centre. The school provides extra-curricular activities, bus service and canteen meals for all ages.

School organisation and studies

The school educates children from Nursery School age to University Entrance. Studies at the school mainly follow the National Curriculum of England and Wales. Pupils at the school then study for GCSE and A Level examinations.

In addition, the school also offers courses in Spanish and the Catalan language, as well as the History and Geography of Spain (legally required in schools in Spain).

Pupils at the school who plan to study at Spanish universities prepare for the university access examination "Selectividad", which is organised by the UNED (Universidad Nacional de EducaciĆ³n a Distancia).
