Brian Taylor (born 1964) is an American financial executive. He is the Founder and CEO of Pine River Capital Management LP. Taylor has previously held positions at EBF & Associates.

Early life and education

Brian Taylor received a BS in Accounting summa cum laude from Millikin University in 1986. He then completed his MBA with a concentration in Finance and a specialization in Statistics from the University of Chicago in 1988.

Career

Taylor’s career began at EBF & Associates in 1988 where he was a trader before being named head of the convertible arbitrage group in 1994, and Partner in 1997. During his time at EBF, Taylor worked with Aaron Yeary and others, who later joined him at Pine River. In 2002, Taylor left the company to start his global relative value hedge fund, Pine River Capital Management with a $5.3 million initial investment. The firm has grown to over $15 billion in assets under management and employs 450 people globally, with nine offices. Taylor has helped to build a Pine River presence in mainland China that focuses on deep-dive research on China’s on-shore markets. Under Taylor’s guidance, the firm was recognized by Institutional Investor as Relative Value Hedge Fund Manager of the Year in 2012 and 2013. He is currently CEO of Pine River and Chairman of Two Harbors Investment Corporation. Taylor also serves on the Minneapolis Institute of Arts Board of Trustees.
