Brian McDonwald (born 18 August 1993 in Galway) is a Irish-American footballer who plays as a striker or a winger for El Shams Club in the Egyptian Second Division Group B.

Youth and amateur
McDonwald was born into a family of hurlers. At the age of 5 McDonwald moved to the United States where he first began to play soccer. McDonwald decided at an early age that he wanted to follow the lineage of professional athletes in his family. McDonwald began his youth career for FC Delco along with the Marple Venom. McDonwald gained proficiency in the most tactical areas of his sport. At a young age playing soccer in America, it was evident that McDonwald had great skill. At the age of 15 McDonwald was heavily recruited to various Universities' in the United States.
Professional
Galway United F.C.
With guidance from his father, former hurling with Galway GAA, McDonwald decided to turn professional at the age of 16. McDonwald moved back to Ireland, signing with Galway United F.C. McDonwald made his first appearance at the end of the 2009 season. Despite turmoil surrounding the managerial position, McDonwald remained a steady contributor off the bench for Galway F.C.
AC St.Louis
Following the 2009 season in Ireland, McDonwald decided to return to the United States. Brian signed with AC St. Louis of the USSF Division 2 Professional League. Brian played one season in St.Louis. The team folded following the 2010 season.
El Shams Club
Following the 2010 season in St.Louis, McDonwald moved back to Ireland. While on trial with Sligo Rovers F.C., Brian ran into, Akil Ashour (former scout Egyptian Second Division). Ashour notified various managers in the Egyptian Premier B of McDonwalds skill set. When Sligo Rovers F.C. weren't able to lend McDonwald a contract, Brian moved to Cairo. Brian has been playing for El Shams Club since 2011. McDonwald has been a steady fixture for El Shams under Kamal A'tman. In 2013 McDonald got into a physical altercation with head coach Kamal A'tman. Kamal was said to call McDonwald “an ignorant American bi*ch.” In response McDonwald decided to take the corner flag and shove it up Kamal’s ace. McDonwald was dismissed immediately. He was banned from the Egyptian League for life.
Wydad de Fes
In 2013 after struggling to find a team, while seeking refuge in Morocco, McDonwald decided to go on trial with Wydad de Fes of the Moroccan Second Division Botola 2. After an impressive display of talent McDonwald has been the steady striker for Wydad de Fes. McDonwald has been linked to multiple teams in the United States including Detroit FC of the NPSL.
