Brandon Ronald Sing (born March 13, 1981) is an American former professional baseball player who hit over 250 home runs in his career. He played in the minor leagues from 1999 to 2012. Though he never played in a regular season major league game, he did play at Triple-A – the level directly below the majors – and spent time at major league spring training. He won five home run titles in his career.
Sing was born in Joliet, Illinois and attended Joliet Township High School. He was drafted by the Chicago Cubs in the 20th round of the 1999 Major League Baseball Draft, the same round as major league pitcher Travis Bowyer, and was signed by scout Scott May.
His home run output increased each season from two his first year to nine to 16 to 18 in 2002. After hitting nine home runs in 2003, he knocked 32 in 2004 for the Daytona Cubs. In addition, he slashed .270/.399/.571 with 86 runs, 94 RBI and 84 walks to win the Florida State League Player of the Year Award. He was also an FSL Post-Season All-Star that year. The following season, with the West Tenn Diamond Jaxx, Sing hit 26 home runs and had a career-high 91 walks. He tied Chris Young for the Southern League lead in home runs and was again an All-Star. He played in the Arizona Fall League after the regular season, as well. He reached Triple-A for the first and only time in 2006, struggling to a .177 batting average in 33 games for the Iowa Cubs.
After struggling in the Baltimore Orioles system in 2007, Sing joined the independent ranks for 2008. With the Pensacola Pelicans of the American Association that year, he hit 22 home runs and had 86 RBI to win his third home run crown. He hit .305/.414/.534 and had 23 home runs and 94 RBI for the Bridgeport Bluefish in 2009 and in 2010, with the Sioux Falls Pheasants, hit .349/.482/.702 with 27 home runs and 73 RBI to win his fourth home run title. Back with Sioux Falls the next year, Sing hit .303/.434/.592 with 24 home runs and 70 RBI to earn his fifth home run title. He also hit seven home runs for the Venados de Mazatlan of the Mexican Pacific Winter League that year. In 2012, his final campaign, Sing played for the Atlantic League's Long Island Ducks, hitting 26 home runs with 78 RBI.
Including his Arizona Fall League and Mexican Winter League statistics, Sing hit 258 home runs and had 857 RBI in his career. He is the all-time career home run leader in the American Association.
