Branch Bragg was the first head football coach in Coosa High School History. Bragg was born and raised in Virginia. He went to Coosa High in 1956 in search of a coaching career.

Career
Bragg coached at Coosa High for 20 years. In his time at Coosa, he made a name for the Eagles all over the state of Georgia.
Football
During his 20 years at Coosa, Branch Bragg was an outstanding football coach. Two of his most memorable seasons were in 1961 and 1969. It was during these two years that he led his teams to a state football championship. In addition to winning the two state football championships, he had accomplished many other great feats during his career at Coosa. His teams won two region titles. They also won 10 sub-region titles. In 1976, Branch Bragg retired from coaching. His career football coaching record is one that is hard to come by. He finished his career with a record of 166-43-8.
Basketball
Known mostly for his football coaching abilities, Bragg also coached basketball at Coosa High School. In 1961, he led the basketball team to the Rome News-Tribune Christmas Tournament championship game. Also in that same season, Bragg’s basketball team made it to the region championships.
Recognition
On January 21, 1999, Bragg was recognized for his outstanding achievements at Coosa High School. At the school’s fall sports honor night, he was awarded the Shining Eagle Award. This is a very prestigious award that is given out at Coosa High. Only two other people have ever been given this award in Coosa’s history. Mike Glenn was given this award for his spectacular abilities in basketball. He would later go on to be a star player in the NBA. The only other person to every win this award was Bernard Holsey. He was awarded for being an outstanding football player. Holsey played pro football in the NFL where he would also become a star.
