Early life

Jay grew up in Center Strafford, New Hampshire. Before working in radio, he worked as a surgical technician.
Education

He studied communication, economics, and philosophy at the University of New Hampshire, Class of 1979, and was involved with WUNH radio.
Career

After graduation, he moved to Boston and got a position with WZBC at Boston College. From there, he got a gig at WLYN, and landed a job at WBCN (FM) and was the deejay for the final show ever at “The Rock Of Boston." (For the last two songs, he played I Feel Free by Cream, which had been the station's first song on March 15, 1968 followed by Shine On, You Crazy Diamond by Pink Floyd.

Prior to his full-time slot at WBZ, he was the executive producer for Dan Rea and was a DJ for sister station WZLX.
