Bonnemaisonia hamifera is a species of algae which has invaded the British Isles from Japan.

Description

This algal species is marine which exists in two phases. One, the gametangial phase, is erect and grows to a length of 20 cm. The Tetrasporangial phase forms a fine and relatively short uniseriate filament. The life history has not been fully confirmed.
Distribution
The first record in Northern Ireland was in 1972 from Sandeel Bay.
