Bone-marrow-derived macrophage (BMDM) refers to a white blood cell that is generated in a research laboratory from mammalian bone marrow. Undifferentiated bone marrow cells are cultured in macrophage colony-stimulating factor (M-CSF; CSF1) for at least five to seven days. M-CSF is a cytokine that directs cell differentiation. These cells are often used in immunology and cell biology research.
