The Boise City Police Department (BPD) is located in Idaho's Capital with a population of 214,237 (2013) which is the largest city in Idaho. Boise City Police employs just over 400 people with 325 allocated positions for sworn officers and 82 civilians.

History
In 1864 the city of Boise, Idaho was made the territorial capital and a municipal government was formed. John Ward became the Marshal The police Department was officially started in 1903 consisting of a chief of police, a police sergeant and seven police officers. It only had one female officer in the early 1930s
Community Service
In 2015 Boise City Police Department created a mascot position. They rescued a local shelter dog and are making him the police mascot. Chief Bones came up with the idea to strengthen community relations by connecting with the public using the dog for community events and acting as a "therapy" dog for victims and witnesses.
Line of Duty Deaths
Officer Mark Arlin Stall was killed in the line of duty Sept. 20th 1997 during a traffic stop in which two suspects exited their vehicle and began firing at officers. Officer Stall was struck just above the vest and was killed. He is currently the only known officer in Boise killed in the line of duty.
